Q What are the posts for which the SSC conducts Exams and what are the required qualifications?
A (i) The SSC conducts open examinations regularly for posts for which large number
of vacancies exist, these are: Graduate Level [Assistant Grade, Auditors/Jr.Accountants/Upper
Division Clerks, Divisional Accountants, Inspectors of Income Tax/Central Excise,
Sub-Inspectors in Central Police Organisations (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB) and
CBI, Section Officer (Commercial) and Section officer (Audit)] and Matric Level
[Stenographer Grade 'C', Stenographer Grade 'D', Lower Division Clerks].
(ii) Direct interviews are held for isolated posts, called Selection Posts, after
inviting applications through advertisements, as and when such vacancies are reported
to the Commission. Some of such posts are Statistical Assistant, Store Keepers,
Jr/Sr. Computers, Information Assistant, etc.

Q What is the scheme of examinations conducted by the SSC ?
A The Staff Selection Commission conducts Graduate Level Examination every year
for various posts, qualification for which is graduation, and Combined Matric Level
Examination for posts requiring matriculation qualification or High School. Those
candidates who qualify in the prelims are required to appear for the Mains. Candidates
qualifying in the mains have to appear for an Interview or Physical Efficiency Test
(PET). Those qualifying in the Matric Level Main Exam are required to pass a skill
test (typing or stenography). Some exams such as the Section Officers, Investigators
etc, are held separately and no prelims are held for them.

Q What are the age limits and age relaxations for examinations conducted by SSC ?
A The age limits are different for different posts and is to be confirmed from the
Notice of exam published in the Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar. Generally, the
age limits are 18 to 27 years on the crucial date. The age concession in the upper
age limit for SC/STs is 5 years, for OBCs it is 3 years and for physically handicapped
candidates it is 10 years. For widows, divorced women and judicially separated women,
the age limit is 35 years for UR category; 40 years for SC/ST women and 38 years
for OBC women. The Notice of exams may be consulted regarding age relaxations for
Ex-servicemen and Departmental candidates.

Q Which category of candidates are exempted from examination fees for exams ?
A Fee is exempted for all Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation, as per rules.

Q What to do when Admission Certificate for exam is not received ?
A If you have not received the Admission Certificate till one week in advance of
the examination, you can obtain a duplicate admission certificate by approaching
the concerned Regional Office.

Q What is the system for allotting centres and sub-centres for examinations?
A The candidates are normally allotted the centre of examination opted by them while
the sub-centre (venue) is allotted according to the Ticket no. of the candidate
which is generated by the computer automatically on random number basis. Sometimes
when the number of candidates applying from a centre is too large, the excess candidates
(except female and physically handicapped candidates) are shifted to nearby centres.

Q What to do when dates of Interviews/PET clash with another exam or interviews?
A No change is Ordinarily permissible. However, if the interviews/ PET are being
held at the specified venue on other dates also, the request may be considered if
made at least ten days in advance with supporting documents.

Q What to do when the category shown in the result is incorrect?
A Such candidates are expected to inform the SSC immediately for re-determining
their results in the actual category.

Q How long does it take for the SSC to nominate candidates after declaration of the
final results of an Examination?
A It generally takes about 30-40 days to process the dossiers of successful candidates.
Thereafter, the candidates are nominated to the respective Departments/ Ministries,
to which they have been allocated. The Concerned Department/ Ministry issues the
offer of appointment to the candidates, within about two months, after completing
the due formalities.

Q When will the result of the written examination be declared?
A Watch out for the information in the "Message Alert". The results
shall be available in the Commission’s website and also published
in the Employment News which may be referred.

Q Whether previous year question papers are available?
A As the Commission is allowing the candidates to take away the question papers
with them after the completion of the examination. The question papers are widely
available in the market. However, the same will be published in Archives column
of the website shortly.

Q Whether the admission certificate has to be returned if the category is mentioned
wrongly or the name is mis-spelt?
A The candidate need not send back the admission certificate merely for correction.
The candidate may take the examination with the same admission certificate, but
mention the correct category/name in the answer sheet/OMR. The candidate may
also inform the Commission of the required correction.

Q How do I ensure that my application is accepted?
A

Please ensure that you fulfill all the eligibility
requirements as per the notice

Obtain the Central Recruitment Fee Stamp (CRFS)
from Post Office, Paste the stamp in the top left corner of the application and
get it cancelled in the post office itself.

Paste a standard photograph (Preferably Black
& White) in the top right corner of the application and affix your signature
in the box below the photograph.

Fill in the application neatly in English or Hindi.
-
After filling up the Date of Birth, you are required
to fill "Age as on _ _". You have to fill this correctly. An example is given
below, as illustration.
Date of Birth :10.07.1980
Age as on 01.08.2007 is 26 years
11 months and 21 days

Fill up all the columns without fail. If
any column is not applicable, write clearly as "Not applicable"

Affix your signature at the end of the application.

Q How do I seek information under the RTI Act, 2005 ?
A All requests for information under the RTI Act, 2005, should be accompanied with
an application fee of Rs.10/- by way of cash or in the form of Demand Draft / Indian
Postal Order (IPO), and addressed to the Regional Director (link to Contact Us),
who is designated as the Principal Information Officer (PIO) for this Regional office.
