The 2026 examination aims to fill a total of 373 vacancies across five elite forces. Here is how the posts are distributed:

Eligibility Snapshot: Do You Have What It Takes?

- Educational Qualification: You must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Candidates in their final year can also apply tentatively.
- Age Limit: You must be between 20 and 25 years old (Born between August 2, 2001, and August 1, 2006). Relaxations apply for SC/ST (5 years) and OBC (3 years).
- Physical Standards: Candidates must meet specific height, weight, and chest measurements.
- Gender: Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for appointment to the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB.
The Selection Blueprint: Three Stages to Glory
The path to becoming an Assistant Commandant involves a rigorous evaluation of mind and body:
- Stage 1: Written Examination (August 2): Two papers—Paper I (General Ability & Intelligence) and Paper II (General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension).
- Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Medical Standards: You’ll need to clear the 100m race, 800m race, Long Jump, and Shot Put.
- Stage 3: Interview/Personality Test: A 150-mark assessment to evaluate your leadership potential and character.

- OTR Registration: UPSC now requires One Time Registration (OTR). If you’ve registered before, you can jump straight to the application. If not, do this first!
- Photo ID: The ID card details you enter (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.) must be carried in original to the exam hall.
- Negative Marking: Beware! There is a penalty for wrong answers in the objective section (Paper I).
