What Is Special Intensive Revision (SIR)?

The SIR is a detailed verification process that involves door-to-door enumeration by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to ensure accuracy in the electoral database.
This process allows voters to:

  • Add their names if they are new or previously missed.
  • Correct any spelling, address, or age errors.
  • Delete entries of deceased or duplicate voters.

According to the Election Commission, the main objective is to make sure “no eligible voter is left out, and no ineligible voter remains on the rolls.”

 Valid Documents for Verification

While no specific document is mandatory, the ECI has issued a list of indicative and non-exhaustive documents to assist officials during verification. These include:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate issued by a competent authority
  • Educational Certificates from recognized boards or universities
  • Land or house allotment certificates issued by Government authorities
  • Aadhaar Card (only for identity verification, not proof of citizenship)

 How Citizens Can Participate

Voters can check, verify, or update their details through:

  • The official Voter Helpline App
  • The National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP)
  • Local Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visiting their area

Citizens are encouraged to verify their information and submit corrections within the designated period to ensure error-free rolls.

 Why This Revision Matters

With several state assembly elections scheduled for 2026, this Special Intensive Revision is a key step toward ensuring transparent and inclusive elections. Accurate electoral rolls form the foundation of free and fair voting, giving every citizen the right to participate confidently in the democratic process.
