  • The result is available in PDF format, listing roll-numbers (and in some cases names) of the qualified candidates.

How to Check the Result

  1. Go to the UPSC official website: upsc.gov.in or upsconline.nic.in The Indian Express+1
  2. Navigate to “Examinations” → “Written Results” → “Civil Services (Main) Examination 2025”.
  3. Download the PDF file of the result.
  4. Use the “Ctrl + F” (Find) function to search for your roll number or name in the document.
  5. Save a copy for your records — this will be required for further stages.

Next Step: Personality Test / Interview

The shortlisted candidates will now proceed to the Personality Test (Interview) stage. This is a crucial phase where the candidate’s overall suitability for services like IAS, IPS, IFS, and other central services is assessed.

Candidates should begin their interview preparation immediately — understanding their DAF (Detailed Application Form), brushing up on current affairs, optional subject, academics, personal background, service‐preferences, etc.

Cut-off Trends & Expectation

While the official cut-offs for the Mains stage may be released later along with the final result, trends and expert estimates provide guidance:

  • For General category, expected cut-off range for Mains 2025 are around 720-735 marks.
  • Past years:
    • 2024: General – 729 marks.
    • 2023: General – 741 marks.
  • Factors influencing cut-off: number of vacancies, difficulty level of papers, overall performance of candidates.

Analysis & Preparation Advice

For those who qualified:

  • Focus on interview strategy: polish your articulation, ensure full knowledge of your personal background (DAF), optional subject, service preferences, and current affairs.
  • Prepare documents: academic certificates, identity proof, category/EWS certificates, etc for verification.
  • Engage in mock interviews, group discussions, and refine your answer style.

For those who did not qualify to the interview stage:

  • Treat this as a learning and improvement opportunity, not defeat.
  • Analyse your performance: which papers pulled you down, writing speed, structure and depth of answers, optional subject strength, current affairs coverage.
  • Plan your next attempt (e.g., for 2026): strengthen weak sections, maintain consistent answer writing practice, improve optional subject and GS writing.
  • Use past cut-off trends to set realistic target marks and benchmarks.

Final Thoughts

The Mains result is a major milestone in the UPSC CSE journey. Whether you are moving ahead to the final interview stage, or reassessing your strategy for the next cycle, this moment counts. Stay focused, maintain your momentum, and align your preparation with the next milestone. Congratulations to all those shortlisted, and to the others — refine, rebuild, and return stronger.
